PMA People: Joe Puzon

Joe Puzon, Associate

Chicago, Illinois

Joe PuzonWhat project(s) are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on the close-out of Chamberlain Group (CGI) Headquarters, build-out of The Duchossois Group (TDG) suite, and owner’s representation for Southwest Airlines.

What are some of your career highlights?
It would have to be opening the University of Chicago Medicine Parking Garage. It was my first big project so it will always have a special place in my career. I was able to work with some great clients that taught me a great deal.

What is something new/innovative happening in your industry?
Automation and artificial intelligence is something that interests me very deeply. I have recently read Automate This by Christopher Steiner (I suggest you read it) and have become fascinated by how much impact automation has on so many different industries and our lives. Recently, someone from PMA shared a story on LinkedIn about AI assisting in construction planning & scheduling. This is very new, but I am interested to see how this develops and is applied to real world construction. Now I am not wishing for AI to take my career by any means, but understanding how it can improve schedule & cost can be highly effective in performing scheduling in the future.

From which university did you graduate?
I graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from Auburn University.

What is your favorite local establishment/feature (restaurant, museum, stadium, etc.)?
I will skip over my favorite dive bars. I love seeing live music in the city. From the Riv, to Northerly Island, the Kingston Mines, to the Metro—Chicago offers so many different opportunities to see great music.

Provide a fun fact about yourself?
I once fell 67 times (estimated) trying to surf. But during that time, I rode an entire wave once and it was completely worth it! “Sometimes your hardest work brings out your most enjoyable moments.”
