Our Story
PMA was founded in 1971 by our CEO, Dr. Gui Ponce de Leon. Dr. Gui arrived in the United States from Peru on a Fulbright Scholarship. He earned his PhD in construction management from the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. His doctoral thesis on schedule network simulation led to PMA’s early innovation in scheduling software that includes the Graphical Path Method™ (GPM®), an original network-based planning and scheduling algorithm.
PMA is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with 15 offices across the United States and more than 200 employees. We provide a wide range of program and project management services and a full range of on-site construction management and consulting services to numerous market sectors.
Culture & Values
We create success for our clients and associates by innovating and excelling in project management.
1 Aiming High
We work every day to live up to our full potential; we challenge the status quo and seek to raise the standards of our work. We honor excellence, commit to our clients, and to the contracts we sign. We enthusiastically address client concerns as soon as they arise.
2 Ethics & Integrity
We are direct, open, and honest in our communications, and we challenge actions inconsistent with our values. We transparently acknowledge and address error resolution without drama or politics. We encourage spirited debate on difficult issues.
3 Empathy
We believe work is done best when there is mutual respect for everyone involved; we value spirited debate but only when it challenges issues, not people; and we show respect for our peer firms. We value and respect diverse backgrounds because they promote broader thinking.
4 Shared Success
We believe we accomplish our best when our people’s, the company’s, and our client’s interests are all aligned. We believe there is no such thing as “that’s not my job.” We strive to delight our clients and to build enduring relationships when taking on difficult assignments.
5 Expert Mastery
Our professionals seek technical mastery and view it as a lifelong pursuit. We do not shy away from new challenges; they are the means to learn and to improve.
6 Innovation
Our innovations create unique value and differentiates us from the rest. We continually strive for process improvements and leadership in new ideas. We encourage and support developing and presenting masterful ideas and deliverables.

With a diverse group of LEED- and ENV SP-accredited sustainability professionals, PMA advocates for the design and construction of high-performance buildings and sustainable developments, as well as for integrated project delivery philosophies. We understand the importance of choosing environmentally responsible construction practices. We facilitate broad collaboration among design and construction specialists to implement the most suitable “green” technology that help owners meet sustainability goals and create healthy environments for occupants.
Safety
PMA is committed to providing a safe workplace for all employees. We comply with federal, state, and local regulations; apply safe practices on all jobs; and exercise good judgment in safety-related issues. We believe that no job or task is more important than an employee’s health and safety. If an employee observes an unprotected work area that poses a potential threat to an employee and/or to a coworker’s health or safety, he/she informs the supervising leader and the PMA Safety Coordinator. PMA employees working on or visiting a jobsite are required to attend safety training or safety orientation and are required to adhere to the safety program in place at a jobsite. We ensure employee safety and health by requiring that employees abide by the following:
- Using qualified personnel
- Making jobsite inspections
- Enforcing the use of safety equipment
- Following safety procedures and rules
- Providing ongoing safety training
- Enforcing safety rules and using appropriate corrective action
- Knowing when and what personnel protective equipment may be required for a specific task
