Raj Gupta, Senior Engineer
South Plainfield, New Jersey
What current project(s) are you working on?
I am currently supporting our client, PSEG, with schedule management and project controls engineering.
What is your career highlight so far? (at PMA?)
I joined PMA right after graduating and it has been a terrific learning experience so far. My career highlight would be successful completion of a transmission life cycle project that involved replacement of old equipment and building a new substation. We faced some delays during the execution of the project with delayed permits, dewatering, and minor scope changes. The schedule management was quite a challenge because of the delays, but brainstorming with fellow PMA folks really helped in finishing the project on time and within budget. The project team was able to meet all the milestones and we received appreciation from senior management.
What is something new or innovative happening in your industry (CM or PM related)?
The implementation of BIM in construction industry has become prominent and brought solutions to many complex construction malfunctions. I would like to explore the areas of 4-D & 5-D scheduling and virtual construction simulation.
What was a transformative project or challenge that you did at PMA?
The transformative project with PMA would be the one I discussed earlier, the transmission life cycle project. The biggest challenge was coordination among different key stakeholders and completing the project on time.
Do you get to do something at work every day that you love? If so, what is it?
I had the opportunity to learn and practice PMA’s scheduling software NetPoint recently. We also have Lunch N Learn sessions that help in updating our knowledge. Learning new software and best practices in the field of project management and project controls is always fun.
What university or college did you graduate from?
I did my Master’s degree in Construction Science and Management from Clemson University and completed Bachelors in Civil Engineering from BVM Engineering College, India.
What is your favorite local establishment/feature (restaurant, museum, stadium, etc.)?
I am an avid fan of Mexican food and Jose Tejas on US-1, NJ is one of my favorite restaurants. I also like to go to Union Square in Jersey City for Indian food.
Provide a fun fact about yourself?
I am a huge fan of Arsenal Football club and would like to attend a game at the Emirates Stadium in London. I started following American college football from the time I was in Clemson and becoming National Champions in the year 2016 is still one of proudest feelings of being a Clemson Alumnus. Go Tigers!
