Q&A with our People

Marie Angelocci

, Ann Arbor

What are you passionate about and how do you pursue that passion at PMA?

I’m passionate about learning, growing, and connecting with others. As PMA expands business nationally and internationally, my involvement has allowed me to gain knowledge and expertise to further my growth at PMA. During my career progression at PMA, I have had the pleasure of working directly with individuals in all departments and operations groups. I enjoy making personal connections and believe relationships are a building block for success.

What current project(s) are you working on?

Currently, a large focus for my department is process improvement and efficiency. It is a group effort and I have an amazing team supporting the endeavor. We are also growing our department through the addition of new staff–this has allowed the team to become more focused and grow their expertise within their role.

Who/what inspires you to push yourself?

I have always had a strong desire to excel, however, I think my fear of failure is greater. I am my own worst critic and want to be held in high regard by those around me, both personally and professionally. I am lucky to have supportive, encouraging, and honest people in my life that help keep me accountable and push me to the best that I can be.

What are the most positive aspects of working at PMA? Or Share your impressions of PMA’s culture.

The most positive aspects are the ability to work with a great group of professionals not only within my department, but also throughout the entire company. PMA also understands the importance of family and provides flexibility as I need it having three girls under 5 years old.

What is something innovative happening in your industry that makes you excited about the future?

Advances in technology have allowed accounting to come a long way from years past. As with many processes, they used to be extremely manual and in the form of significant amounts of paper. Technology continues to improve our daily lives by integrating software systems, automatically performing certain tasks based on parameters we set up and minimizing human error.

What university or college did you graduate from?

I earned my bachelor’s in finance in 2018 and my master’s in accounting, 2019, both from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

What is your favorite local establishment/feature?

While I don’t love UM football (😉), downtown Ann Arbor is a great place to grab dinner, drinks, and enjoy a fun evening out–particularly in the summer. My favorite places are The Last Word, Black Pearl, and Mani Osteria. During the summer, the streets are closed off on the weekends to allow the restaurants to spread out and provide a ton of outdoor seating. Taste of Ann Arbor and Restaurant Week are my two favorite events held downtown.

Provide a fun fact or secret talent about yourself.

Growing up my family had pet mice, gerbils, hamsters, birds, rabbits, cats, and dogs. Not all at once, but usually a combination of at least four types of pets at a time.
