Detroit 800 MHz Radio System & 9-1-1 Call Center

Overview

This $120 million design-build contract provides a regional 800 MHz radio system for use by all departments within the City of Detroit. The radio system includes a 30-channel simulcast system of 10 radio tower sites to provide strong in-building coverage to more than 10,000 portable and mobile-subscriber radios with at least a 5% grade of service; a 23,000 SF emergency communication center that includes a 9-1-1 Call Center (PSAP) and radio dispatch for Detroit police, fire and EMS; and a new 22,000 SF radio communication center that houses central site simulcast equipment, a network operations center, a maintenance area, and radio operations office space.

PMA assisted the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department with developing the RFP and design-build contract documents; provided support during contract procurement; coordinated and reviewed design deliverables and submittals; facilitated owner design input; drafted procedures; assisted with fleet map development and transition planning; and managed schedules, scope issues, and overall contract administration.
