PMA supports the Project Management Division (PMD) of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works (DPW) in designing and implementing a new Project Management Division (PMD III) that will standardize the project delivery framework for horizontal and infrastructure projects.
Overview
PMA Role
PMA was first asked to help develop and formalize the new organizational structure. PMA’s responsibilities included developing roles and responsibilities for the core team and project support functions, creating a governance model and charter, developing job descriptions, and implementing a life cycle project management framework with detailed project management, construction management, and project controls processes. PMA also analyzed existing data sets and source systems and developed high-level project data (budgets, schedules). We also modified systems to accommodate new processes and developed a standard suite of project reports and dashboards to provide transparency to management.
PMA also provides a project controls team, as an extension of staff, to PMD III project managers to provide immediate support on current projects. This task is a parallel effort to evaluate existing information and define and implement new processes and reports to support the new organization.
