The 2.5-mgd San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Mel Leong Wastewater Treatment Plant consists of sanitary and industrial wastewater treatment operations. Improvements are required to the industrial wastewater to increase capacity for future demands, address deferred maintenance to extend the facilities useful life, meet Title 22 Regulations, and provide a reliable source of recycled water to achieve SFO sustainability goals. The $75-million project scope includes the rehabilitation and replacement of existing industrial primary and secondary wastewater treatment processes, replacement solids dewatering and handling facilities, construction of a new 8,000-SF administrative and laboratory building, and construction of new recycled water treatment processes and storage facilities.
PMA serves as the overall project manager during scope definition, schematic design, and the design-build process. PMA leads an integrated construction manager/city team that guided the process through programming, design, construction, and commissioning. During the construction phase of the project, PMA will administer the construction contract; provide QA inspection, office engineering, project controls, estimating, and document control; oversee start-up and commissioning of the upgraded system, and contract closeout.
